Gjvon G Says: Someone shattered my windows then broke into my car. It is a '98 2door Cavalier. The door will open but it will not open more than 4 inches after opening the door. Also, from the outside you can see the door penetrating the front of the car. I am guessing they tried to break the door off? I am confused on how did this happen. It confuses me dearly. Therefore, do I need the door to be fixed to get a new window installed?

spraymonkey001 Says: take it to a body shop, they more than likely push the door past where it would normally stop and now the hinges are "sprung" .The door probally doesn't need to be fixed to hold the new glass but it will need to open all the way for them to replace the glass.so it's a yes and no on the last part of your question

Jim Says: It sounds to me like the door was opened too far or the door was smashed or the fender shoved in too far at the back by the front of the door. Yes you are going to have someone repair the door and replace the glass. I can do this at my shop in Barrie Ontario for something like 325 bucks depending on the damage.
