(2010-05-30 10:48:21) 1. Says: hi all, basically i got 04 corsa timing belt changed 2 wks ago. a few days later it developed oil leak and was losing anti freeze - mechanic said water was just airlock and should settle down. he sealed a gasket to fix oil leak.one week on and back to another mechanic who said he could not find any problem - water pump fine, seals fine - he said it was just the car setteling down after timing belt change.
does this sound right or am i being fobbed off2. Says: Well, it is a very emotional time for the car to have a timing belt change. Did either of these "mechanics" suggest a car therapist.
No, seriously, there is no settle-in period after the timing belt gets changed. It either works correctly or it doesn't. And to "seal" a gasket leak, without changing the gasket is a good magic trick, that might last until the warranty expires.
If you are putting coolant in you have a coolant leak. If you have to put oil in frequently, you have a oil leak. That's the bottom line.3. Says: Nope it dont sound right. There is no settling down period for a cam belt change. I hope they have not over tensioned the belt as this can put strain on the water pump and tensioner pulley.4. Says: Sounds like a run around for a shoddy bit of work. Cars don't need to "Settle Down" after being worked on. Tag: HELP WITH TIMING BELT , OIL LEAK - CORSA?
