Alternator belt keeps coming off?
(2010-05-30 10:52:13) 1. Says: I made sure that it was tense and everything, so I started looking for the reason it kept jumping. All the cranks turned freely, but I am suspecting the power steering pump due to the 'crank' on the power steering pump is able to move up & down (in a shaky motion). I know there is a leak on the pump, (due to me not having any power steering) but do you think the power steering pump is due to the belt continuing to come off...Just for reference it is a 1988 Chevy Blazer S-10 4x42. Says: Tighten the belt & get a new power steering pump.3. Says: Use a screwdriver or other such tool to keep that alternator pushed back while you or someone else tightens that pivot screw (the one that lets you hinge that alternator in and out for tightness). Just pushing it tight using your hand won't be enough. Also, maybe you don't have the right belt on there - double check to make sure its the right one.4. Says: Are you driving this thing??
Yes the power steering pumps movement will do this. In an emergency, find a belt that you can bypass this pully with, usually a little trial and error unless the 1988 had a no power steering option. Get to a junkyard if you can not afford a new or rebuilt one.5. Says: Yup.6. Says: You have to fix the leak on your power steering pump and tighten your belt properly. Hope this help!
