I haven't driven my car since January, should I change my oil?

1. Kate Says: I just got home from college and was wondering if I should change my oil. My car has not been in use since I was home last and got very few miles during that time. It is no where near the recommended miles between changes. The car is a Mitsubishi Lancer if that helps.
2. Sprinter Says: Engine oil should be changed every year regardless of the miles. If it was not in use, it won't hurt if it hasn't completed one year. If you changed oil somewhere around May 09, then its time to change even if you did not drive.

Hope this helps.
3. sha1gon Says: It certainly wouldn't hurt.

Old oil is bad just like dirty oil.
4. Paul Says: Change the Oil, Check the Tire Pressure, Wash the Car :)), Etc.
5. BMW Says: It wouldn't hurt. If the oil is dirty , change it. If it's about that time anyways in a month or two, change it. Plus it's better to change it after a long sitting to get back on the normal oil maintenance routine.
6. Country Boy Says: It would help more if you'd have listed the number of miles the car had been driven since the last oil and filter change. Also list the brand and type (synthetic or non-synthetic) oil in the crankcase now.

More importantly go by miles driven not number of days or months.
