If a problem isnt a fuel filter or pump what would it be?

1. Lynzie Says: i drive a 1992 pontiac grand am and when i drive and press on the gas pedal or when i drive up a hill, my car loses power! we have tried to change the fuel filer and the fuel pump but still no change, what else could it be?
2. mister ss Says: bad air filter, engine in need of a tune-up, or catalytic converter getting plugged up.
3. harold Says: try the air filter
4. Knowledge is better Says: Sorry to state this to you openly, but my grandam did the very same thing and guess what it was ? The transmission had blown even though I changed the fluid and gasket and filter every 5,000 miles. If you have the 4 Quad, get rid of it now. 128,000 to be exact, your car does not have a timing belt, it has a chain.
5. Paul Says: Compression Test to see if you have a Weak or Dead Cylinder, Possible Burnt Valve(s) or Bad/Weak Valve Spring(s), When was the last time the Timing Belt was Replaced?
6. Mr. KnowItAll Says: Plugged exhaust.
dirty air filter.
Crappy gas.

And a whole bunch of other things.
But these are the most common.
7. Kyle J Says: Before you start throwing parts at it put it on a code reader and get the OBD codes. That will atleast give you a place to start and some direction. If not, just like the fuel pump, you will needlessly be buying tons of parts.
8. Petey Says: A 1992. Do we have a check engine light constantly illuminated, or perhaps momentarily when chugging up that hill? You could very likely have clogged fuel injectors. It only takes one bad batch of fuel to do it and begin a process. Can you recall ever using a gas can where you did not know where the fuel came from, or knew it was old (Old is considered longer than one month old)? It is possible for old fuel to gum up injectors almost instantly, but worse yet, it leaves a deposit on them that continues the gumming process until, well, until you car runs just as you described. If your car eventually let to this problem more and more, and you are not sure about all the fuel that has been put into it for the past year or so. Then I would have the fuel injectors cleaned professionally with a pressure system.. Nothing new with Delphi injectors; those used on your GM product, as they tend to attract and collect fuel gum like a magnet.
