My 81 Corvette is grinding when i put it on reverse?

4sakenMechanic Says: With the vehicle in the off position, try shifting into reverse. If it goes in with no problems, then you have an issue with your clutch. If it still grinds while the vehicle is off, then you have an internal transmission issue.

4sakenMechanic Says: try pressing the clutch twice instead before you engage reverse. If this helps, then its the clutch pedal adjustment.

ken k Says: at 30+ years maybe the clutch is not doing its job anymore the exact way/however check the area at the flywheel for grease or oil and put it in 2nd or third gear and then to reverse/countershaft is not stopping hence the grind/lining it up putting in 2nd will stop countershaft
