William Says: I just installed a 302 h.o. from a 1989 mark7 into my 1995 f-150 but used my old distributor now it doesn't want to hold a load, but runs nice while idling. I am not a mechanic just tried to save money. I also kept my intake from the old motor just in case the info helps

idontgivafork Says: they are in fact the same distributor.there may be a different drive gear though.for sure the ho engine has a bronze distributor gear for use with a roller cam.if your other 302 had a roller cam, then they are absolutely the same,id say youve missed something.either timing to far advanced,or something else simple.also remember that most ho's run a different firing order.i know for a fact there are 3 different firing orders for 302 engine.i had an oddball 82 and 83 ho that ran a firing order that was not listed in the manuals.this is also how i found out one of my spare engines was not an 82 ho, it had the wrong firing order.all the right equipment, wrong cam.just start digging around, youll find the answer.

lookat Says: Replace the distributor with the one that goes with the 302. Look for it at http://www.RockAuto.com

Kenny Says: They are not the same. Why didn't you use the HO distributor to match the ECM and camshaft profile.
