Weird noise when backing up?

(2010-05-30 11:25:53)
1. Crys Says: I just bought a 2008 Mazda 3 and when I push the breaks when they are wet it grinds/squeaks. It does it going forward, but it does it really bad when in reverse. It only seems to do it when it has been sitting for a while then you start to move. The sound seems like it is coming from the rear breaks. I don't have any clue what could be causing it to do this. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Your rear brakes are dragging and scraping. I am not sure if your 2008 mazda has rear DRUM brakes or DISC brakes, but the brakes are still ''squeezing'' a little bit. They are not fully releasing their grip.
PROBABLY HAS REAR DISCS...

You will hear grinding noises when dirt or sludge prevents the Drum ''wheel cylinder'' from contracting, OR the rear disc pistons from fully retracting.
ALSO....the deafening sound you hear is METAL on metal ; the worst noise you want to hear. It means there is no more brake pad/ brake shoe, and you are scratching expensive faces.

Go to one of those free brake inspection places.. but you don't have to pay the high price, just get an answer.

4. Bananas!!! Says: It is completely normal, especially when they are wet. Many different vehicles do this
5. kidashley25 Says: There is always a slight pressure on the brake pads so that much is normal. I would have to look at the brake pad friction material as a possible cause. You might want to try a set of aftermarket brake pads that may have less metal content then the Ford brake pads.
