Driving a manual transmission?
(2010-05-30 11:46:18) 1. Says: First off, there are plenty of sites, and youtube videos telling me how to drive a stick shift. SO I DON'T NEED AN EXPLANATION OF HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL.I need suggestions of where I could get a manual that i could practice with. I live in Iowa, and I called all Drivers Ed places around me (within 20 miles) all of them said they do not carry cars with manual trannys (all of them!!)
All of my friends that would even consider to let me practice something ive never done before on their car do not have manuals, and my only family members that drive one live 1 hour and 45 minutes away.
So then I called the rent a car place, because I have a free rental pass, but they did not have any cars with stick shifts.
My only thing i can think of now is a car delearship. My dad used to drive manuals when he was younger so he knows how to, so if he requested a test drive for a beater car with a manual, and he said he was buying it for me, do you think the person that is letting us test drive it, let me drive it even though It would be somewhat obvious that I never have driven a manual?
And do the people at the delarship, always come with you on a test drive, even if it was me and my dad, and it was a 2 door beater truck??2. Says: No. I don't advise you to try to drive it at the dealership.
Readibg and doing are two different things.
The action you must take has to be smooth and percise.
The timing of the shift lever in cordination with the
gas and clutch pedel have to be exact, if not the car will
jump and jerk.
Suggest you practice at home on deserted steets.
It won't takw long to get the hang of it, maybe an hour
or two or even less.3. Says: they probably wont let you drive it because of your age. but, get it, i can tell you there is nothing better than a manual car, i got one and love it. i had no clue how to drive it, and looked like an idiot for a week or two, but you pick it up fast. watch those videos and youll be fine once you get a feel for your own car. i never was taught or anything, just jumped into it. theyre great though, go for it Tag: Driving a manual transmission?
