Smoke coming out from under my drivers seat area.?

(2010-05-30 11:51:23)
1. mjones Says: I was cleaning out my car today when I noticed some smoke coming out from under my drivers seat area. I had not been smoking, the car hadn't been running for some hours now, and there was nothing in the car that could have started a fire. Under the seat there is a little black box with some wires attached to it that I think run under the car to somewhere. Anyway, if anyone has any advise please help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
2. Michael Says: All sorts of electronics are stashed under the driver's seat depending on make, model, and year. Some Hondas have engine computers under there, some Toyotas have navigational units there, and it is a popular place for audio equipment.
3. Paul Says: Does the Car have Heated Seats? Box is for the Seat Belt Alarm Switch, Seat Heater, Etc. If the wires are loose or Damaged it can short and smoke when cleaning.

(Is this the Car that was sitting for 6 Years? E-mail Me.)
4. scrubbag Says: Did you have the ignition key on while you were cleaning the car, like maybe to listen to the radio ?
Having the key on could mean that whatever is under the seat, was on also, and maybe it heated up more then it should have. Or there is a shorted wire under there that is energized with the key on.
