Air Conditioner Compressor Situation?

1. Lonnie Says: I have a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am and my compressor is leaking oil around the pulley. It's only 7 months old, I see the belt tends to shake when the A/C is on. The belt is tight, but seems to shake as the motor shakes. What do I need to do?

2. Teddybearalso Says: It really sounds like the front bearing in it is gone or worn out, letting the shaft move around and damage the seal causing the leak. Compressors are not rebuildable if you do not know what you are doing. They have rebuilders that rebuild them but it is not really something you want to try to tackle yourself. Buy a new compressor.

4. Stuart H Says: The belt shake is probably normal. The oil leak may be a warranty problem contact the people that you purchased the compressor from.

5. mycoldfeet Says: the bearings and clutch is ready to go, trade it in on a new one, take the reciept and the old one with you, most have a year warrenty on them.
