Dave & Kim Says: 89 Honda accord 2 barrel carb, 4 cylinder, automatic. took to dealership and they had it for a month and couldn't fix it, replaced the high temp separator and gaskets on the carb and some hoses on the vacuum lines. The car runs on it's own and doesn't want to turn off. I try to keep it in drive and turn off but still diesels. I have the manual and Hayes books. I need an experienced Honda person to give me some help. In the manual it has an idle speed screw, will this help any?

Nasty Mcdirty pt.XIII Says: Retard the timing a bit and it will slow the idle speed. If someone turned the idle way up to keep it running, the carb is shot

bandit_60 Says: your talking about after run. it, probably because it,s idling too fast. take a screwdriver and right by the accelerator linkage turn the idle screw out some so it won,t idle so fast.

Mike C Says: Dieseling is very often a timing issue. If the dealer had it for a month though, I'd be surprised (actually, not too surprised) if they failed to check the timing.
