Will switching to synthetic oil on my first oil change on a brand new car give me better gas mileage?
(2010-05-30 12:08:15) 1. Says: Yes, it will, because it does not degrade and lose viscosity at the rate that conventional oil does. Synthetic Motor Oil can be used during the break-in period trouble free. In fact, vehicles such as Dodge Viper and Chevrolet Corvette come factory filled with synthetic oil.Since most new vehicles come filled with petroleum oil, it only makes good sense to change to synthetic at the first scheduled oil change interval. New engine components generate high levels of wear metals and can contain contaminants from assembly. By allowing the engine to operate with the petroleum oil until the first oil/filter change interval, the wear metals and contaminants are removed prior to installing synthetic oil.
There are no special procedures for changing from conventional oil to full synthetic oil, but as a precaution in older vehicles or those with high mileage, it may be advisable to use an engine flush first. This will ensure that the engine is clean and free of any accumulated contaminants which might have an effect on the service life of synthetic motor oils.
Synthetic oil is the best choice for any vehicle in the long run. While they will cost more at the time of your oil change, they will save you more money over the service life of your vehicle.
For example, over the course of 25,000 miles, the cost of regular dinosaur oil with a drain interval of 3000 miles will require at least 5 quarts and a filter per oil change, for 25,000 miles you will need 40 quarts and 8 filters, this comes to a total of about $168.00 (40 quarts @ $3.00, 8 filters @ $6.00).
For the same vehicle using top-of-the-line AMSOIL 100% Synthetic Oil with a drain interval of 25,000 miles in conjunction with an AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency oil filter, you will need 5 quarts and 1 filter, this comes to a total of about $59.75 (5 quarts @ $8.75, 1 filter @ $16.00).
You would save $108.25 over conventional oil by using AMSOIL premium synthetic oil. This, along with the benefits of better wear protection, lower engine temperatures, improved fuel efficiency and easier cold-weather starts. All of these benefits add up to reduced operating costs and longer engine life.

...its like saying a leather seat gives you better gas mileage?
it might be good for your engine...but it has NOTHING to do with gas mileage3. Says: Better gas mileage is a stretch , but it will help keep engine clean & takes longer to brake down.
but still keep up with oil change schedule4. Says: I would agree with the others, and say no. But the friction inside is reduced a bit more with synthetic oil then it is with regular oil, so there might be a tiny, little bit of a gain, if any, since the engine is working more easily.5. Says: No, and how do you know it's not synthetic already?6. Says: unless your car came from the factory with synthetic you need to run conventional oil for the first 15,000 miles as a break in procedure.Synthetic is TOO slick and doesn't allow the parts to "wear in"
MORE:Vettes,Vipers, and Beamers come with synthetic oil because they are built with much tighter clearances between moving parts, and are pretty much built with no break in period in mind.Your car is built much different being thrown together hoping for the best with mass produced parts that need some friction to work in all together.I'm not that familiar with Amsoil but I do know some people swear by it,but I know of no other oil synthetic or otherwise that goes 25,000 miles.Oil changes are about the only time that newer vehicles get a look under the hood and things do go wrong so I can't imagine anyone recommending a 25,000 mile maintence interval no matter how good your oil is Tag: Will switching to synthetic oil on my first oil change on a brand new car give me better gas mileage?
