Is it important you use high mileage oil for a 95k mile vehicle?
(2010-05-30 12:13:48) 1. Says: Nope. High mileage oil probably won't hurt, but will it help? I put it in the catagory of "snake oil." Oil and oil change sellers have sold slick-50 and others, recommend 3000 mile oil changes (way too often) and sell other products and additives that, frankly, most consumers just don't need.My 1981 Toyota 4X4 pickup went 389K and was still running strong when I sold it. I used an oil change interval of 5K miles for the entire time, and I used standard mineral oil. You can spend much more for piece of mind, but the real value is minimal or non-existent.2. Says: Seeing as 95k isn't high miles.....I can't imagine why it would be.
I haven't even started using it on my 300k mile car, and it runs just fine. I'll probably start when it gets closer to 500,000 miles.3. Says: Not really. Just keep changing the oil and filter regularly as the car gets older and you'll be fine.
High-mileage oils often contain additional seal conditioners and additives that can help prevent minor leaks on older cars or slightly reduce oil consumption/burning etc., but if your car isn't leaking oil and is well maintained and running well otherwise there's really no huge benefit to using the high-mileage stuff. Conversely, it really won't hurt anything if you decide to use it either.4. Says: Not at all, I advise customers not to use it.5. Says: 95k car cannot be categorized as a high mileage car. I have 310k on one of my Daihatsu and runs like a sewing machine with only regular oil changes.6. Says: If your engine is running fine and not using any oil I would continue using what you have been using all along. Tag: Is it important you use high mileage oil for a 95k mile vehicle?
