(2010-05-30 12:19:41) 1. Says: ok so i took my car to a mechanic.. he said it was the o2 sensor but he dint have one in tonight.. he un hooked the one what was in my car and said it would be fine to drive the 40 miles i need to tonight without hurting the car.. he said it was shot.. and it isnt working at all..on my drive home after he un hooked it.. it ran better.. it wasnt as sluggish and it dint smell like gas inside the car.. so would it be ok to drive with it un hooked until tomorrow??2. Says: yes that will be fine. I wouldn't drive it like that for months on end but until tomorrow will be ok3. Says: If my guys unhooked an O2 sensor and told you to drive home, he would be working at Mc Donald's in the morning!4. Says: yes, you will be ok your engine will just run rich and get less MPG but get it fixed as soon as you can5. Says: yes you will be fine usally if O2 sensor is stuck on lean it send as much fuel as possible to the engine making it run sluggish and might smell gas and alot of exhaust smoke.
Unplugging the O2 will just set it at default setting wont hurt your car.6. Says: Its ok. but I dont think he should have unplugged it. There are two O2 sensors. One before the catalytic converter and one after. It is usually the one before the cat that goes bad. Although it is not the end of the world if he unplugged it, I feel he should have left it plugged as, 1. he may not know for sure which one wnt bad. 2. it wont hurt to leave it plugged in even if its broken but certainly wont do any thing if its unplugged Tag: Driving without an o2 sensor?
