M Says: My car has been acting weird today. I get in to start 'er up, but it is having trouble starting. Finally, after a few failed starts, it starts up and sounds normal-ish. I drive to the bank (about a mile away) and when I get in the parking lot it feels like my truck is trying to shut off. I park and do my banking business and when I get back outside, my truck will not start again. It tries to turn over, revs loud but then sputters back to death. FINALLY after about 10 failed attempts, it starts and I try to slowly make my way back home. Along the way, the truck is shifting fine through 1st and 2nd gear (truck is automatic) and when it hits 3rd gear it starts to sputter and act erratically. I barely made it home, not sure what is wrong but I would appreciate any ideas of what this might be. Thanks!

lainle Says: Hard to diagnose without being there, but it's obvious you have issues with the firing of the spark plugs. This could be caused by lack of gas to the engine (probably caused by fuel filter blockage) but the more likely causes are (in order of their probability) bad timing belt, busted or cracked distributor, and bad sparks or spark plug wires. It sounds like you need a tune up (roughly $150 on average) to have all the mentioned parts tuned or replaced.

Michael Says: sounds like a fuel feed problem but you did not say if its petrol or diesel so i cannot comment any further
