Front wheels start squeaking if I drive more than 10 miles.?

(2010-05-30 12:34:31)
1. Kevin Says: Whenever I drive my 2005 Ford Focus for for 5-10 miles or more, the front left wheel starts to squeak.

If my car is "cold" it doesnt make any noise driving a short distance. But once I drive it on the highway or something I hear squeaking. (like a mattress)

-How fast it squeaks is relative to my speed.
-It happens going straight or turning.
-It happens both during and not during braking.

I have brought to a mechanic 5 times (the same guy) and he has charged me $900 for 4 new tires, alignment, balance, spring kit, rear boots and drums. He said the wheel bearrings were fine.

Still squeaking!

And then recently he charged me $300 for news pads and rotors in the front and assured me "this time it will sovle the problem."

$1,300 later and it still squeaks!

I am NOT going back to that guy. (I almost want to dispute the CC charges most recently of $300.)

So does anyone have any idea what else it could be?

I am completely lost. (and a lot more poor.)

The squeaking gets so loud... especially after going longer distances... everyone can hear me coming down the street. I just want my car fixed. Please help?
2. kfhaggerty Says: Man, you're really in a pickle. It is the kind of problem that requires an actual hands on exam, with a stethoscope and a test drive to hear what kind of noise, unfortunately. If I had the car here, I could more than likely figure it out; but after having read your list of changed items, one would have to start from scratch. Can a wheel bearing squeak? Yes. Can it squeak only when warmed up? Yes. It's highly unusual for a bearing to "squeak", though. But it does happen. The noises that wheel bearings make are typically described as whining, humming, groaning, or grinding. I know I'm splitting hairs trying to differentiate sounds on a keyboard. But what I call a squeak is rare in bearings. At this point, though - what else could it be really. There are only so many things that move in the front end, and even fewer that turn, changing in pitch along with speed changes, or that can make enough noise to draw attention to the vehicle. I've hear belts in tires squeak, cv boots (yes, the boots!), bushings, brake linings and hardware (even pads that are simply inappropriately oriented), and bearings too.

At this point, you really have no other choice than to have another tech look at it, making sure he is fully aware of the history. And, it smells like litigation with the first guy. It seems like he was just banging out parts arbitrarily, sure that he would hit the nail sooner or later. Sorry I couldn't help more.
3. f100_supersabre Says: Boy were YOU ripped off.
Sounds like a dry wheel bearing to me. MAY need replacement by now.

WHY would you need FOUR tires for ONE squeeky wheel, or REAR boots and drums for a FRONT wheel problem.
EITHER of these suggestions would have sent ME somewhere else.
4. goodyspc@verizon.net Says: I am sorry but I think you have been taken by this crook.I hope you kept your receipts.
If this person replaced all those things first, before giving the suspension a simple lube-job and road test(to see if the grease made the noise disappear)he's either stupid or he's a thief...I'm guessing the latter. You will likely need to have a Ford dealer check it out...they're not cheap but they are bound by Fords' reputation.Take your receipts with you and ask them to verify the repairs the other person claims he made(in the future, always demand to have the old parts returned to you. This will make the crook think twice about ripping you off).It sounds to me like a simple lube-job would have cured the problem.I wish I had better news for you.If the Ford dealer finds that this dirt-bag lied about the repairs he made, turn this punk in!!
5. John Says: yeah sadly I see this all of the time and it usually a crooks work......always ask to see the old parts as they are taking them off....you as a consumer(at least in the state of michiagn) have the right to request to visibly inspect the old parts however in most states the parts are not allowed to be returned to you....but as for the problem it sounds like all along its a wheel bearing....call either you states consumers department and the better business bureau...
