Brakes are squeaking?

(2010-05-30 12:39:59)
1. Lauren Says: The brakes on my car squeak when i use them but they also squeak sometimes when i don't use them, does that mean i need new brake pads?
2. spraymonkey001 Says: not necessarily but you should have them checked out.most places do it free with a tire rotation
3. Dave Says: Most cars, the brakes are designed to have the brakes squeal when they need changing.

New pads and preferably discs together!

good luck :)
4. n_rosychuk Says: Brakes are designed to squeak/squeal when they need replacing so yes, you probably need knew brake pads.
5. Theneelster Says: Warped rotors. Need to be resurfaced (or replaced) and pads need to be replaced.

Brakes don't start squealing when they need to be replaced, that's a myth. They need to be replaced before they start squealing (on most daily driven cars) otherwise you end up gouging the rotors.
6. John Says: yeah sounds like you need to change the pads and the rotors......double check to make sure you have even wear on the pads.....squeaking while not depressing the brake pedal can be caused by bad disc brake hardwear and or a sticking caliper or caliper bolt/guide pin....be sure during re assembly to use sil-gyde on the caliper pins and hardwear to be sure they dont stick to the rotor
