Car jerks when accelerating from a complete stop?
(2010-05-30 13:13:19) 1. Says: 05 Chevy Impala 3.8L (LS) 72k miles. Approx 6mos ago I had the transmission pan gasket & fluid replaced. Now @ times after being @ a stop sign/red light & I accelerate the chevy will jerk. My car has a remote starter on it so it gets warmed up in the AM. I've checked the transmission fluid, it's @ the "max level". It doesn't do this all the time just sometimes, but when it does start it will continue this on every stop & go, once I get going after the "jerk" it stops and the drive is alright but when it gets to 50mph it has a sporadic flutter (this happened after the TPG & fluid was replaced). Fuel Filter was replaced about a year ago, oil is changed every 3k miles, tune-up has not been done on the car as of yet.Any info you can provide is much appreciated.
Thanks in Advance2. Says: I find it hard to believe the "hick-up" you feel is transmission related. If the ignition has been misfiring, has the check engine light ever flashed on? A Chevrolet dealer could read the code which usually leads to one of the three ignition coils or the ignition pick-up module itself. Bare in mind that if just one of the three ignition coils quits momentarily you drop two cylinders on opposite banks at the exact same instant. The jerk you feel will be a heck of a snap in the head.
I'm dying to know when you had the transmission fluid changed did they*flush it /or/ drop the pan off the bottom of the transmission, drain it and change the filter? It'll say what they did in your bill. Occasionally it's hard to understand bills. If you call the dealer they can tell you if they flushed or drained the fluid.
Transmission flushes are dangerous on a car with as many miles as yours. When the fluid is flushed out of the transmission the dirt and residue in the bottom of the transmission ban is forced backwards through the delicate valve body (brain) on the bottom of the transmission. There are small passageways, check-balls, plungers, springs and valves where this filthy fluid and trash is forced to go.3. Says: If it happend after the transmission was serviced, and it isn't a fuel problem, then the transmission may be slipping. A number of things could cause one to jerk, however. Spark could possibly be the problem. You may need new coil and wires. Would definately need more investigation than can be done on computer.4.
