Last year i had been driving on hardly any oil for awhile. How bad will that that affect my car in the future?
(2010-05-30 13:14:26) 1. Says: I had gotten an oil change but no one had ever told me to check your oil and add more if it got low. My friend at work checked it 5 months later and there was hardly any oil on the marker. I got an oil change immediately after that. Its been 6 months and my car is running fine and i add oil when needed.2. Says: running an engine low on oil is bad for the engine, it's like taking half of your blood out of your body and then telling you to go run a mile or two.3. Says: if its not dead by now you should be fine.as long as the motor stays cool4. Says: I have actually blown up 2 cars from not putting water and oil in them. Trust me its important to check these things moving forward. Also make sure you have regualr checkups on the car =)5. Says: You add oil when needed? How come it took 5 months before you found out it had no oil?I hope this is not a new car (warranty gone now) no maintenance. There is an owners manual in the glove box. It`s worth a read if this is your first car. Oil should be checked once a week until you know how much oil your car uses. Then change the oil every 3 months or 5000 miles.. As for whats left. alot depends on the make model year and mileage of the car. The better you take care of it, the longer it will last6. Says: as long as the low oil pressure light did not come on, you should be fine. rule of thumb, if you are filling the gas tank, check the oil level. most cars will burn about 1 qt every 3000 miles.7. Says: dude, ur runnin that car to the ground. why is it taking u so long between oil changes??? ur killing that engine. every 3000 to 5000 miles u need an oil change depending on the car or 3 to 4 months. whichever is sooner! and u must check ur oil every week!!!8. Says: the dipstick doesn't go all the way down it only shows up to one-two quart low depending on the engine9. Says: You may develop a sludge problem. Oil lubricates the engine and that job is most important, but the oil also helps the engine shed some heat. When the oil is chronically low, the oil gets pretty burned and loses its lubricating properties. Tag: Last year i had been driving on hardly any oil for awhile.
