My car shakes when I brake, whats the problem?
(2010-05-30 13:18:09) 1. Says: I have a 2001 Toyota 4runner with about 200k miles. When I brake, especially down hill it shakes. I've heard this could be the shocks or brake pads or maybe just fluid. Going to take it in this weekend, just trying to be prepared for the cost. Whats wrong?Thanks.2. Says: If it only shakes when you're slowing down (especially at the lower speeds of 10-20 mph) you probably has warped or scarred rotors. You can either get them refinished or simply buy new rotors (buy brake pads too if they look worn). Hope this helps and I can't know 100% without looking myself.3. Says: Most likely, from your description, you have tie rod ands that are beginning to fail. If there is no balancing issues at high speed until the brakes are applied. Other possibilities are the need for new rotors, and hidden breaks within the tire belt.4. Says: This was happening to my moms car, she needed new brake pads5. Says: Usually it's the front brake rotors that are warped. When you get new brake pads on the front they will either cut the rotors -which takes a thin piece of the steel off to take the warp out or replace the rotors. Bad shocks usually cause a bounce in the tire that is able to be seen by a pro on the tire. It would usually not happen when the brakes are applied. Its the rotors.
