What is the size of oil pipe leaking in the golf coast accident?

1. angels above us Says: If we could put another pipe around the one that is leaking then tighten it up and run the oil to an off shore deposit, would"nt that be a better way to stop the flow of oil into the ocean? angels above us

2. tonybradburyuk Says: If it is a production well, then it is a 2" pipe. If it is exploratory then it is a 6" drill pipe.

3. Homee Says: The size of the blown out pipe is 21 inches and the failed siphoning tube is 6 inches. The reason I call it a failure is because it is barely siphoning a fraction of the oil. Why didnt they use a much bigger siphoning pipe? Or just jam a 21" piece of solid steel in the hole?
