I have a question about oil pumps?

Says: hi i recently got a oil pump from autozone and the rod that is at the top doesnt spin. i dont know much about oil pumps but i installed it and my car started knocking and i turned it off. i took the oil pump off and my nieghbore came over who is a mechanic and tried to turn the rod when it didnt turn he said it was frozen and wasnt any good. does that sound right to you or was he just full of ****.oh and if you need to know my car is a 68 ford xl2. Says: He is absolutely right. You should be able to turn the shaft (impeller shaft) with your hand.3. Says: Is this a 390?
You are gonna have some other problems. That shaft turns via the distributor. If the pump and drive rod was properly installed then you will have a worn distributor as well! Also, if you ran it with no working oil pump until it started knocking, engine damage has been done. Tag: I have a question about oil pumps?
