pegasixi Says: I want to do light maintenance and maybe some suspension work on my car, but I do not want to buy a crappy floor jack. Unfortunately, I don't have the money for a good one either ==; I have two jack stands lying around along with a tire jack... Do you think I could use the tire jack in lieu of the floor jack along with the jack stands?

Rylan V Says: I'm not there and I can't see it so I don't feel right giving advice tell you it's ok. If your question they safety of it, I would recommend what every you feel comfortable with. Jack it up the best you can, if you have a couple cinder blocks you can throw them under for a backup.

rick29148 Says: It's safe to use the regular car jack to raise the car enough to get a jack stand under it. But do not get any part of your body under the car when it's just up on the jack. Sears had a nice floor jack that came with two jack stands for about $ 100.00 not long ago .. got one myself...

mustanger Says: Depends on the tire jack and where you want to put the jack stands. Most tire jacks won't get it up high enough to get the stands under the suspension.

Michael S Says: Okay! Here's the thing. You lift up one side with the tire jack and put the jack stand in place. How do you now lift up the other side. If you use the tire jack and try to lift that side while the other side is on a jack stand you don't have stability. Very dangerous.

the_boy_toy Says: It's best to just place the car on top of jack stands. Putting it under any jack could result in a dangerous situation.
