1. Justin E Says: its a 2000 mercury cougar ... was hoping it would be a clogged filter ... but i pulled it and tried to start it and no gas came out of my fuel line from the tank
2. Mark Says: Most likely. But first check the relay.
3. Ronk W Says: Its most likely fuel pump is bad, there is a diagnostic test lead under the hood or you can also unplug the relay and jumper wire acrossed the fuel pump circuit to activate the pump but based on cars age its likely th pump

also a lot of people do not know if you run a fuel injected car out of gas too many times the fuel pump willl fail because the gasoline cools and lubes the fuel pump and without fuel they can over heat and fail pretty quickly...

also when they are run out of fuel air needs bled out of the fuel to make it easier on fuel pump and its less likely to fail prematurely

P.S. Yes there is a inertia switch on most Ford products some are located in the trunk and others in the interior.

If car got bumped in a parking lot or driveway even at low speed it could have been triggered too.
4. wt Says: Check to see if there is a fuel pump shut off switch inside the trunk, reset it if there is one.
