Can the power steering pump cease?

(2010-05-30 16:01:37)
1. D Says: its on a ford fiesta 2000
2. Harry Says: The belt broke because the pump froze up. Sometimes steering pumps just quit working and other times they lock up.
3. gm Says: yes, result of "loss of fluid". the bearing and bushings will wear out and seize the shafting . on some the internal parts like vane pumps/blades will seize due to lack of lubrication
4. bad attitude Says: It sounds like the pump has died. If the belt is off the pump try to turn the pulley by hand. if it won't turn then you need a new pump. Good luck
5. dick car guy Says: well the bearing has frozen on the power steering pump, the pump has failed, this is why the belt broke too, so replace the power steering pump and the belt, and you should be good to go.
