1. jpliego007 Says: When I stop at a light or a stop sign, and I then press on the gas my car accelarates slowly even if I'm gunning it and if I let go then press on it again it slowly accelarates and its a v8, what can it be am I going to have to get a new engine or transmission, please professional expert asnwers would help best
2. LadyBug Says: I'm no expert or mechanically minded but I've driven enough to know the difference between a tune up needed and a bad transmission.

Tune up: sputtering & difficulty speeding up from a stopped position. Once you're up to speed, shifting is fine.

Transmission (or could be an ECM problem which is part of the t-mssn)...won't shift to higher gear no matter the speed...if you're going 35 mph and need to accelerate to 45 or are going up a hill, you can have the pedal to the metal and your car won't go nowhere....better have a foot covering the break because with it kicks it WOW what a jolt.

Your situation sounds like a bad transmission. First get the fluid checked (engine must be running. If the fluid is clear, it's fine. If it's dark and you can see it on your finger it's not good. Smell it...if it smells burned, it's bad. Check your pavement for fluid leakage as well. If the fluid isn't good then chances are your transmission isn't either....that means it's time for a replacement. Be a little thrifty on a 2nd t-mssn and get a rebuilt one. If your car is old and you want to keep it as long as possible, you don't want to spend a whole lot of money on a new t-mssn because the next part to go out is the engine...when that goes, you might as well give Old Bess the heave-ho and replace 'er.

Source: my mechanically minded father having the father-daughter car talk, and also my mechanic teaching me stuff as he went through my car. I've been through 3 or 4 cars in my lifetime....drove them to death. (my Chevy & Ford didn't last past 140K miles....but my Toyotas? ...if they ain't been recently recalled, they can last an eternity!).
3. Dave87gn Says: its the transmission, you might get lucky and just be low on fluid, but if not , a rebuild is in your future
4. springfield45 Says: When was the last time you tuned this car up ? what is the yr, make , model, size engine. And is the tranny slipping ?
