Tranny hard shift 98 merc tracer 135k?

Says: This is a work car with a tranny quirk, It shifts normal when its really cold (below freezing in MN) or for the first couple cycles of the day before the engine warms up. Now it warmer outside. The very first time of the day it up shifts with out problem. Has Been like this for a while, The rest of the day it SLAMS from first to second gear. Like the the torque converter and transmission are out of timing, Any ideas?Thanks2.
