My gas pedal gets stuck?

1. laford Says: This has happened twice now: I stop at a stop light, and when it turns green I go to step on the gas pedal and it's stuck and won't go down for me to accelerate. I was thinking it could be dirt or something, but I was wondering if anyone had ideas on what the problem may be? Thank you!

2. rick29148 Says: The connection between the pedal and the engine is a flexible push-pull cable, and they do wear out. What you need to find out is if this problem is in the push-pull cable or in the throttle body on the engine. So, find where the push-pull cable hooks to the throttle body linkage, on top of the engine, and unhook it. Then you simple cycle the throttle body bu hand, with the engine OFF, and see if it moves smoothly. If that is smooth, then take the end of the push-pull cable and push it back into the cable, and see if it slides in-&-out freely. One of the two should either cycle roughly, or have hard spots inside the normal cycle.

4. Happy Gramps Says: possibility of needing lubrication in the linkage or at a pivot point - very difficult to diagnose w /o actually seeing the vehicle

5. Jordan C Says: The gas pedal is attached to a spring assembly under the hood that pulls and retracts the carburator or the throttle body. It sounds like something could be interfering with this...which could be dangerous so I would have it checked immediately. If that isn't it, the carb or throttle body needs a setting adjustment because the butterflies are sticking.

6. dick car guy Says: this could be a disaster in the making, you need to have the linkage under the hood inspected thoroughly by a competent mechanic, and then the cable and housing that goes through the firewall to your gas pedal. Some things can be put off, NOT THIS. IF IT STICKS LIKE WHEN YOU ACCELERATE GOING AROUND A CORNER, THIS COULD BE BAD. PLEASE, GET THIS CHECKED IMMEDIATELY, SO YOU DO NOT GET HURT. THANK YOU!!!
