Loud Squeeking sound from motor?

(2010-05-30 16:30:19)
1. owizeisme Says: I have a 2007 Jeep Cherokee Loredo with a 3.7L V6 engine. Today it starting making this loud squeeking sound. I popped the hood and it was coming from the motor and the belt. It sounded like something wasnt oiled or rusted because the squeeking sound kept getting louder and louder. The car was in the park position and just running. It usually happens when the car is not in motion or in park and also when Im turning. I know its not the power steering fluid so I have no idea what the problem could be. Also when I drove for a bit my dashboard said "transmission overheated" and the dial was all the way on H. I had been noticing that my air doesnt really get cold and that I been smelling like a burnt rubber smell or smokey smell when I have the air conditioner on. Could this relate to the sound I been hearing? I checked the transmission stick and it looked fine. Is this something only a mechanic can figure out or do I just need some fluid somewhere in my car? The jeep only has 42,000 miles on it. Please can someone diagnose this and help. Thanks I really appreciate it.
2. BJ Says: You need to check the belt - in fact of all them - ASAP! You don't want to end up with a torn belt in your engine for this will cause severe damage to the engine.
3. Bill Says: Tighten all the belts first so as to eliminate them as the problem. Most likely a loose belt.
4. mister ss Says: sounds like a loose belt, if you have a serpentine belt you need a new belt and belt tensioner.
