Mustang Air cleaner question?

(2010-05-30 16:35:49)
1. baseballjunker4 Says: Hey,
On the bottom of my factory air cleaner for my '71 Mustang are 2 metal spokes sticking out of the bottom. I know that 2 hoses are supposed to connect to it, one of them being connected to the engine block. What does the other connect to? When I removed it to clean, there was a about 8-in rubber hose connected to it but I don't know where it went originally. Help? Hopefully that made sense.
Thanks,
2. Boring Says: One usually goes to the pcv valve and another to the carb/intake.
3. dick car guy Says: gotta be some ford guys out there, I know one should go to the valve cover, this is the crankcase ventilation, and I am trying to think of what else but its been a looooong time since I had my head under a torino or my mustang. lets see what other answers you get
4. dooger j Says: One of the bottom connections most likely run to the heat tube for the choke. Look underneath the round choke housing, on the passinger side of the carb. There should be a tube that runs from the housing into the intake and then back out. One hose should run from there to the air cleaner. The other small connection may connect to the base of the carb. It would be for the thermoststic flapper in the snorkel of the air filter housing.
The crank filter will fit in a hole in the outside ring of the filter housing and have a larger hose, probably a 5/8 or 3/4", connecting it to the oil cap on the valve cover.
It's been a while since I've seen a 71 anything, with all the lines hooked up.
Here's a site that may be useful.
