Had a transmission flush, was it a bad idea?

1. xObLOwKISSESxO Says: Today I went to Valvoline to get an oil change. They tried to sell me other stuff like a transmission flush and radiator flush. After much convincing and them telling me my transmission would soon seize without a flush, I did it. After reading about them I am starting to think this was a bad idea. I am a young girl and I feel like maybe they took advantage of my little knowledge of cars. My question is, will the flush make my transmission seize sooner. I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant with 107,000 miles on it. Was this a bad idea? I am freaking out because I don't have money to deal with any repairs. Also was the radiator flush good? The tranny fluid was dark brown almost black before they replaced it. Thanks so much to anyone who can help! :)
2. RussK Says: Flushing your transmission is a good thing,
Flushing it will not make it go out sooner but can prolong its life.

If you’re Trans is going out, it’s going, there isn’t much you can do.

The old way of changing fluid would only get out 2-5 QTS of fluid
The new fluid mixing with the old and sediments left inside the Trans would cause the problem
With all new fluid it will not have that problem, and with flushing it a lot of the sediments come out with the old fluid. Whet is left, the new fluid can handle.

Change it more often, the transmission is the one thing that you service before the fluid gets too dirty.
3. Mr. KnowItAll Says: 107,000 miles is a lot to do something drastic like a system flush.

Everything you said is possible.
My Chevy truck has over 240,000 miles on it with the SAME fluid. (topped off occasionally)

If your transmission lasts for 50 miles, it should last another 100,000.
Good luck.
4. eric Says: Well I can tell you that your research is good, I've heard the same thing about transmission flushes especially when the car gets a lot of miles on it. I read a lot about it after they tried to sell me the same thing. As far as radiator flushes are concerned, I think as long as you have it emptied every couple years and refilled with the correct mixture of antifreeze and water, it should be fine. (adding plain antifreeze every now and then if it gets low, which it really shouldn't on a car like that)
5. al Says: I have the same problem with my wife and my daughter, they sale everything to them doesn't matter what it is, if you going for an oil change "Just change the OIL" last week end I went to a Toyota dealer to change the oil and they said I need to change the tires. When I have tires for life in the same dealer they do not replace any tire because there is a use full thread on it and they where a lot worse than the ones I have now, Now you have the idea...
6. bandit_60 Says: they will tell you anything just to get your money. all i can say is your walking on thin ice by getting the transmission flushed. i,am going to tell you something. i had a woman bring her car to me because it would,nt change gears. i had to drop the valve body and clean it out before it would change gears. then it was,nt too long after that the front pump went out. so all i can tell you is time will tell. i tell all my customers just to drop the pan and change the fluid and filter.
7. Mark Says: RussK nailed it. Your transmission is "relatively" young. You should flush the trans every 30K, but until 120-130K, the original fluid should be OK. You did the right thing and it shouldn't cause problems
