Is it safe to drive a car without a sway bar link?
(2010-05-30 19:49:18) 1. Says: I am waiting for new sway bar links to come and the mechanic took out my old sway bar link because it was damaged. He said it was ok to drive without them but just take turns easily and dont drive too fast. Is this true or was he B.S'n me?2. Says: Every auto parts store has them, unless it's for a really rare car. And yes you can drive it.3. Says: Yes, what he told you is true.4. Says: Any front end part is a safety issue and he should have gotten one the same day so you would not have to take a chance and drive without one. I would have considered the persons safety as well as the public.5. Says: Hello ,It is actualy called the "Anti-Swaybar" . Needed for stability and drivability . Helps keeps the vehicle from swerving when the vehicle strts to get out of control . Best get it repaired right away . Hard to believ an ASE Certified Auto Tech would say a thing like that . They are generaly very easy to repair with new bushings or replace . About 1/2 hour labor . Maybe a free alignment check afterwards .6. Says: he's telling the truth you could get body roll on a turn and possibly lose control.7. Says: A police officer knowing you to be driving without the necessary "safety equipment"/anti sway bar could impound your car as being unsafe for highway travel. I find it hard to believe that a certified mechanic would have given you this advice. The anti sway bar has a positive affect on your suspension as well as when you turn. The anti sway bar insures that the suspension does not "collapse" on the outside wheels and cause the car to "roll" excessively so you can maintain control. The anti sway bar also stiffens the suspension to prevent "bottoming" of the springs and shocks. You can develop a firmer ride with a larger diameter anti sway bar than stock. This is especially important on high speed turns and quick maneuvering. Replace it as soon as possible and drive this vehicle as little as possible and not above 35mph.8. Says: You can drive it, but you risk experiencing the "death wobble" which if you've never experienced before, will scare the crap outta you, especially if it happens at highway speeds in traffic. If you're only driving around town, then it won't be as much a problem. But you should get them replaced as soon as possible. Tag: Is it safe to drive a car without a sway bar link?
