I cleaned my MAF sensor... But the SES light is still on, but is running Fine now, Will the light go off?
(2010-05-30 20:04:03) 1. Says: My car is throwing P0174 code....Usually my car Just stalls right away when I turn it on.... After taking some advice I cleaned the MAF sensor, I let my engine warm up, I turned it off.... started it again and it turned on perfect. I drove it around.... tested my car by driving super low ( Usually it will stall ) Turned some corners stopped it let it idle.... It was running like it used to... I always have to press the gas when I start it to make sure it keeps running... I turned my car on and off a few more times and it was turning on great... But the SES is still on...
Will the light turn off by itself after a while????? or is it supposed to turn off right away if I fixed the problem...????????????
I have to smog my car in less than 3 weeks so I need it fixed :(2. Says: The PCM needs to see a certain number of successful(that means no trouble codes) startups before it will make the SES light go out. Or, if you want to just reset it, disconnect the negative battery terminal for 30 seconds.
Edit: Michael S....you're wrong. Older cars would use a check engine light, a lot of newer cars simply use an icon of an engine, but would you look at that, Fords Service engine soon light indicates a trouble code.
Pulled directly from here: http://www.auto-facts.org/auto-scan-tool.html
"But let me give you a little background on what turns on the service engine soon light and why the light exists at all.
Basically the Federal Government wants to notify the driver that the vehicle may be contaminating the atmosphere. Yes, the main function of this light is for emission system compliance.
The service engine soon light comes on to notify the driver that a code has been set in memory. Sometimes the code relates to a serious problem, but in most cases it's a minor malfunction or intermittent condition."
My knowledge doesn't come from a website, but rather from a career in the automotive industry. When a Ford comes in with the SES on, I grab the WDS to find out which trouble codes have been stored....and whaddya know, they are always there. My scan tool doesn't say, "Hey, its time for an oil change." Sounds like you need to educate yourself before you spout absolute crap on here, that's why over 60% of my answers have been selected for best answer. Leave working on cars to the big boys, go drive away in your Pow-Pow-Power Wheels.3. Says: MAF sensor issue would be from BOTH P0171 AND P0174.
Not sure where that diagnosis came from...
We would love to help you but P0174 means different things in my 2003 F150 than it does your "car". (Hint...hint.)4. Says: Just so you know what you are talking about the SES light, which is the Service Engine Soon light, does NOT throw any codes whatsoever. It comes on to tell you that your car should be getting an oil change or something along that line.
The CEL, Check Engine Light throws codes when you have a problem.
If you fixed the problem, then all you have to do is disconnect the negative battery cable for about a half hour and then put it back on. If the problem that caused the CEL to come on is fixed, the light will not come on when you start the car..5. Says: For all the confused people out there P0171+P0174 are system lean codes banks-1+2 and if it is a ford you really need to have a scan tool to properly diagnose this problem! You need to see the BARO and LONG TERM FUEL TRIM pids to determine if it is a MAF problem OR a vacuum leak, Although it is almost a given if it is a 4.6 or 5.4 to check the PCV elbow on the back of the intake for a deteriorated hose! good luck... Edit to Brutl you talk a lot of smack for a guy with barely 10 Years under his belt! Tag: I cleaned my MAF sensor... But the SES light is still on, but is running Fine now, Will the light go off?
