What are some advantages of Thick Oil, like 20W-50 in Summer?

1. Wise Talking Cat Named Binky Says: And what type of Oil Pressure should i expect to see?

Everyone says use Thin oilm but this car likes THick, SO SAY THE OWNERS, with almost NO Exception, the Thinenest someone said to use was 10W-40...

Can anyone EXPLAIN this issue, as the Thick Oil SEEMS to be Preferred, and Thin Oil SURELY doesnt equal "ProtectioN" in a BIG engine that SAYS to use THICK oil...?

im confused O.o
2. Sean Says: Older engines have looser bearing clearances and tolerances from wear and age, and in order to maintain the same oil pressure as new, it would take a slightly thicker oil. With that said, there's no engine that should need 20W-50, if it uses that, it's time for a rebuild. They all have the same protection, the thicker or thinner oil is just for the different clearances. Nothing more. Use what the manufacturer recommends, slightly thinner in cold climates, slightly thicker in older engines (IE if it calls for 5-30 use 10-30).
