Jaguar Won't start after a jump.?
(2010-05-30 20:14:22) 1. Says: Hi guys. Yesterday my mother's car needed a jump, and some guy walking his dog, oddly enough, jumped it for her and she got home. This morning, she needed another one. When I get over and try to jump it, this time it won't work. Theres enough battery power to turn the windshield wipers on, and a few lights, but not to actually start the car. It's a 95 (i think) jaguar, and I'm pretty sure this is the second battery it's had in, so the battery's pretty old. I'm just wondering if you think the battery's just too old to hold a decent charge, or if it's something else? Thanks
-Joe2. Says: Replace the battery if it's more than 3 years old if you don't want to charge it and test it. Next test the alternator.
Some vehicles have large 60, 80, and/or 100 amp fuseable links that look like large fuses. They are to protect the electronics in case some one jumps the battery backwards. Check to make sure one of them is not blown. They are usually located on the positive battery cable clamp or in the engine compartment fuse box.3. Says: battery needs replacing at that age - if it holds its charge after 20-30 Min's of driving without using lights, wipers, horn, air con etc. then you should be ok because it takes that long to drive without using the battery to charge the battery enough to start it next time round - in the winter it will be more tricky. if problem persists after replacing battery, then your alternator may need attention4. Says: Check the voltage with the engine running to be sure the alternator is OK. Then replace the battery. Make sure the cables and connections are clean and tight.
