Do I really need to get an oil change now? I'm due in miles and months, but?

1. I'm delicate like a flower Says: I drive a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. I have an indicator for "Oil Life" and it says my oil life is still 42%. Can I wait until it's like 4 or 5%, even though I'm due for an oil change? It's been just about 3 months as well as 3k miles.

Changing the oil every 3 months is pointless, oil doesn't go bad from time. 3k miles was a good number when vehicles didn't do the thinking for people but your fivehundred should be change between 5k and 7500 miles depending on how you drive. if the display tells you there is still life in your oil listen to it, but make sure never to go over. that is a VERY well designed engine and will last a very long time if you don't get sludge buildup clogging the lifters/lash adjusters.

3. Patrick Says: You should be fine. Look in your owners manual, many newer cars' manuals state that oil changes should be done every 5,000 miles.

However, you should check your oil LEVEL regularly.

For models 2007 and newer, they extended the interval to every 7,500 miles.

6. Hsiang T Says: Follow the Oil Life meter. That is what it was designed for.

Why would you trust the Engineers who designed the car for all other things except when it comes to oil?

Check the owner's manual. I think there maybe an exception of a 1 year timelimit to change, but otherwise just run it down to 0%.

You are needlessly wasting money (and oil resources) if you change early.

Do yourself a favor, dig out the 30 bux and get that POS ford an oil change..... better yet, drive it off a cliff. just joking....but really, changing the oil is the most important part of keeping your car running well.
