On a 1991 Dodge 250 318 engine dose water go thru the timing chain cover?

(2010-08-19 15:37:48) 1. woodchipper1492 Says: I have a 1991 Dodge van 318 engine just had the water pump replased by a machanic but it still has a leak he says it coming from the timing chain cover Need Help2. dodge man Says: yes it does and those was real bad to leak right around the top left corner of the timing cover,the only cure for them sometimes is to replace the whole timing cover on them,i own a 92 model and just got done replacing the cover on it ,they get a weak spot in them or blow the gasket on the upper corners of them, and a few of the bolts also go though it that hold the water pump on and if they aren't sealed with sealant when their installed they also leak a little bit,and they are sometimes hard to get to seal back up if you reuse the old cover,good luck with it.3. dodge man Says: your welcome, i bet he forgot to do this ,most mechanics that don't know too much about a dodge won't use any sealant on them,take it back to him he,s responsible for seeing that it doesn't leak any so it shouldn't cost you anything to get it done right,good luck.
