I have a 99 ford ranger 2 wd 4 cylinder. My ABS light is on and the speedometers not workin&not shifting gears?

Your truck doesn't even have a speedo cable. Symptom and cause are as follows. Trans not shifting- Bad speed sensor, CM goes into "crawl mode" and will not let the trans shift into a higher gear than 2nd. ABS light is on- Bad speed sensor, the abs can't sense if the wheels are turning or locked. Speedo isn't working- Bad speed sensor, not sending a signal to speedometer. Your trans is fine, just have the sensors replaced. You can even do it yourself, it is very easy and should only take about ten minutes and all your problems will be solved. P.S. Beware of dirty mechanics and trans shops, they love bad speed sensors because they can tell the average consumer that they have huge problems (due to the multiple symptoms), charge them for all kinds of bull **** and just change the sensors.3. BundyGil ...... suspended again. Says: ABS light being on usually means one of your wheel sensors isn't working and needs to be replaced. You can find out which one by slamming the brakes on and finding the wheel that locks up.
The speedometer not working is due to either the speedo cable broken, or the speedometer itself is faulty.
Shifting only 1st and second can mean it's on it's way out or it could also just need adjusting.4. Reverend Joe Says: It's possible, but I would take it in to have it checked out, or to a trusted friend. ABS is bad sensor or fuse most often, and speedometer is a bad cable possibly. But all of it may be bad wiring problem too as may be bad speed sensor not letting it up-shift. I think you need the book on it. See www.autozone.com or parts shop for a manual on repairs.5. Only Iknow Says: "only" says no big deal, You have a bad speed sensor. You have 2 of them on the trans (input and output) you can easily replace both of them yourself for about a $100.00. They are mounted right on the trans with one wire on each.6. Al Says: There are 3 sensors one on each wheel in the front and one of the rear (on top of the pumpkin).
