How can you tell a chevy 305 from a chevy 350 motor?

Says: my pap has a 1985 chevy c10 custom deluxe i want to get. i know it has a v8 in it and says he thinks it has a 350 in it, but hes not completely sure. how can you easily tell a 305 from a 350.2. Says: There should be an identification code: V8 codes are stamped on a pad just forward of the right side (passenger) cylinder head. It may just be me, but since they are such similar motors in terms of parts i would just assume its a 350cid. Because when i found out my 69 camaro ended up having a 305cid instead of a 350 i felt so depressed for some reason and would have rather stayed in the dark.
