Ford engine swap question?

(2010-08-19 15:37:55)
1. chuck j Says: I have a 1998 Ford f 150 with the 4.6 liter, but she's tired, 140,000 miles and starting to use a lot of oil. So, I was thinking of rebuilding an older 70's or 80's 351 to swap for the 4.6. I know it's a huge jump up but I am not looking to make it a race truck. I just want a stronger running enigine with more power. I realize the gas mileage is going to SEVERLY change for the worse.

If I decided to do this would the 4.6 liter parts, manifolds, injectors, etc., fit on an older 351.Or, I might even just put a 302 instead of the boat motor 351?
2. bikertrash Says: Absolutely nothing will fit from a 4.6L engine onto a 351 or a 302, these engines are completely different. The 302/351 are push rod engines while the 4.6 is an overhead cam engine so consequently nothing will interchange between them. I have heard of people replacing a 4.6 with the 5.4 engine since they are very similar but even that swap is going to take a lot of work to make it right.
3. Only Iknow Says: "only"says Bike has the right answer and I would have given him a thumbs up but I don't have enough points to rate answers yet. ( DAM!)
4. Abcofmylife Says: wow.. big question... let me think
