Are restoring old vw bugs fun?

1. Mekaliah Says: I am wondering if anybody has had any experience in restoring old bugs? I am wanting a fun challange I know you can buy books like how to keep your bug alive. Did you have fun with it? If so where can I find a body for it? Thanks for the help!

Rewarding, yes.
I have started several old bug projects and never completed one of them. Moves interfered with completing them.
But there have been other project cars that I completed well enough to get back on the road and use for several years.
As for finding ones to work on, try Craig's list, and local classifieds. There are always some listed on e-bay. Just make sure you can pay for it and get it home.
When all else fails, take out an ad, or post on Craig's list.
You can get all the parts, one at a time from several VW restoration parts places. I have not looked, but maybe there is some one who sells the complete body and pan.
Some are were being imported from Mexico too.
Enjoy. To take something that was ready to be crushed and to make it run as well as look new can give one a sense of accomplishment.

3. gooseboy78 Says: depends on how detailed do you want to go... chrome or painted engine parts? custom painted or just basic colour? thumping stereo or just a headunit and a couple of speakers? as for bodykits try a vw magazine or v dub club. eg. the poraga (porsche fake) rolls wagen kit (yes rolls royce front) or the original meyers manx.
