HI I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota 4x4?

1. booboo.jack Says: This is the first time I have owned a 4x4 truck, it did not come with the owners manual. My question is how do you properly engage and disengage the 4x4 for this model truck. Thank you for your help. Winter is coming I can't wait to use the 4x4.
2. Don't know everything ! Says: Did you look above the driver's side sun visor for instructions, my wife's '97 Dakota 4x4 and my '92 Dakota 4x4 have instructions attached to the visor itself.

If you engage four wheel drive via a shift lever on the floor, you can engage HIGH range below 45 MPH by simply pulling, not jerking, the lever into high range. To engage LOW range, the truck must be stopped and the transmission placed in NEUTRAL before attempting to engage the transfer case.

If the transfer case is engaged via a shift button or switch on the dash, I "THINK" engagement is at the same speeds and LOW range still requires the truck to be stopped and the transmission in neutral. I've never owned a button/switch engaged 4x4 but have been told engagement procedures are the same as a floor mounted shift lever, you just use the button/switch.
