Is this a bad alternator?
(2010-10-02 14:10:08) 1. Says: My car is 98 Sentra XE and has 86K miles on it. Started having a problem a week ago.First drive belt squealed bad, put the belt back in place then battery light turned on. A/C stopped blowing cold air, and now it doesn't charge at all.
Took the car to autozone, they said its feeding 13V, so alternator is NOT bad.
Is this true? or Do I have to buy a new alternator and need to buy a new battery as well? Is there anywhere else that needs to be fixed or looked at?2. Says: Because your A/C stopped blowing cold air, it must mean that the car's A/C pump is not spinning properly, or not spinning fast enough. Check to make shure you have the proper sized belt on the assembly. Also make shure the belt is tight enough. To check if its tight enough you just try to turn it sideways, if you can turn it almost 90 digresses then your belt is tight enough.3. Says: Could be that the belt is not adjusted to the tightness required to spin the alternator pulley, since the problem only started since you adjusted it is most likely to be connected to that.4. Says: I believe you have a serpentine belt and you said you put the belt back in place.
You might have gone over when you should have gone under and vice versa so here is a video with your or a very similar belt.
