1. BleepyBoop Says: 1997 Ford Explorer XLT
4.0L SOHC engine.

Near my dipstick for the oil, I have 2 tubes going into a rectangular shaped plastic box. Coming out of the box are a few wires, going deep into the engine. What are the two pipes that are going into it called? One has disconnected and is blowing air out of it when the car is started.
2. bobweb Says: If it's the EGR DPFE sensor as suggested in the first answer, Ford had a recall on some of those sensors. So I'd stop by the Ford parts department to see if your sensor has been recalled and replace it.
3. Edna Bambrick Stole My Wallet Says: Those are the pressure reference hoses for the DPFE (EGR pressure sensor). I would recommend replacing the sensor along with the hoses. Use silicone vacuum hoses as the heat is too much for standard rubber vacuum hose.
4. tcbijim Says: most likely vacuum hoses..
5. Jenson Shephard Says: i assume its known as a flame trap box "breather".
