1. angie Says: My car was due an oil change a while back, i also have a minor oil leak.... so to extend the time to do my oil change i added more oil to the car.... after that i drove off the gas station and then my car wasnt putting out the same power it ushually does and the tail pipe started to smoke, it was white smoke???? Since then i havent drove the car.... i want to tkae it to the mechanic but ofcourse i would like to know a cheaper fix before they give me a list of things to fix. I need to fix this issue to sell it.... some one told me to go and get an oil change so they can get the old oil out, and put the right new one..... any suggestions???
2. Lexa Says: Too much oil, more likely -- the oil pressure is forcing the oil out into the engine and the engine is burning it up... that's what the smoke is from. The cops can ticket you for that.
Just remove some oil!
3. ramcharger Says: get the oil change done, you've over filled the crankcase and the motor is burning the oil ,fix the leak also,it's costing you money.
4. HillClimber Says: You only add more oil to the car when the oil on the dip stick is at or below the add mark. In case you do not know how to check the dip stick, you may have added too much oil. That will create a pressure problem below the pistons and force oil into places where it gets burned in combustion and then you get blue smoke - not white.

If you know how to read a dip stick, then you did NOT add too much oil, so that is not a problem. If you don't know how to read a dip stick, then get the oil changed now so the amount of oil is back to normal. See how thinks work after the oil change. If things get back to where they were before all this happened, you are good. If not, and you still have any color smoke, you need to see a mechanic to (a) find how what is wrong and (b) how much a fix will cost. Some smoke problems are symptoms of costly problems. Depending on what this car is worth, you can get to a point where you just sell it as is (don't fix anything) and you are better off financially.
