Can I use copper grounding wire to secure header wrap?

1. matt Says: just wanted to save a little money by using what i have on hand as opposed to buying some metal zip ties. I am not sure if the copper would melt on the header wrap though.I think it would be fine but I am just looking for a second opinion.
2. Big Bruce Says: It should be fine. Pure copper melts at almost 2000 degrees F.
Your exhaust temps should be way below 1600, probably not much more than 1400, and that is the gas temp, not the temp in the engine compartment on the outside of the insulation.
Brass hardware is used on a number of engine exhaust systems. No problem.
3. Atavist Says: Yes you can. I did! And that was a tubular turbo manifold, much hotter on boost. I unwound an old transformer for the wire. It improves power and economy, and on turbo engines keeps the gas hotter before it gets to the turbine.
4. Tim Says: No, copper will burn ip due to the high heat.. If you can't get you can use safety or stainless tie wire . You can get it a any performance shop or maybe hardware store .
