1. Rob Says: numerous mechanics say this is so, and my auto tech teachers as well. trolls not welcome here. experienced only
2. the_boy_toy Says: Let's see, 87 octane fuel is not highly flammable under normal conditions. A cool morning with the dew point at mid level. Reason being, there is no fuel vapor in the air, the air is damp, there is a slight breeze and the fuel contains additives to suppress it's flash point.
On the other hand, Premium gasoline with an octane rating of 92 inside a non vented home garage with an ambient temperature of 105F and 0 humidity, and the gasoline has been sitting in an open container for half an hour changes the odds. I wouldn't try it at my house.
3. IMNidiot Says: Vapor ignition is around 480* Fahrenheit.

If it's a cool day, the cigarette will just go out.
If it's over 110* outside it might ignite, but I doubt it.

Mythbusters did an episode on just that.
4. YourSolution Says: it will simply go out, it takes a proper air to fuel mix in order for fuel to ignite from a spark or from an ember. Its also the fumes that ignite
5. chris Says: IT WILL GO OUT

You need the correct air fuel mixture to get it to ignite, ask anybody who drives an old car how hard it is to start!
6. Rick Smith Says: Yes it will just go out there need to be an equal level of oxygen and gas fumes.
7. =) Says: most likely it will go out since its not the gas that ignites its the fumes
8. spencerc7 Says: i think it will just go out but i wouldn't try it
