(2010-10-29 14:05:15)
1. Christopher L Says: I have a 1979 Camaro i just put a motor in, My question is other than the positive battery cable what other cables go to the starter and how many should there be??

I am a little new to the whole motor wiring thing if you cannot tell so explaining it as simple as possible helps

thanks!
2. slipstream Says: on the solenoid it should be marked...looking at it from the rear of the starter [ besides the main terminal] on the left there is a small terminal marked with a "I" for ignition...used on earlier model,s...late 70,s & early 80,s were transient year,s where the ignition was not run through the solenoid...you must determine which you have. the center main terminal should have 2 heavy cable,s ...one heavier than the other...the heavy one is the positive battery cable....to the right there should be 1 wire going to the terminal marked "S" for solenoid....on some model,s there was a ground strap but it does not connect to the solenoid...it connect,s to the starter mounting bolt,s.
3. dodge man Says: you should also have two or three fusible links that connect to the starter and also make sure the ground wire is hooked up and that the engine is grounded and the body ground is also hooked up,other wise it won't run right, there's also a small wire that connects to the starter that comes off the ignition switch if you don't put it back on it wont turn the engine over, good luck on it.
4. mdk68gto, ase certified m tech Says: it should have at least one more to the s terminal on the solenoid. that is the one from the ignition switch. it might have a third that goes from the i terminal to the distributor but i am thinking that you have HEI.
5. MUSTANG_MIKE Says: Don't forget the ground strap from the block to the firewall, it grounds the whole car..
