1. bandit_60 Says: i have a 1988 oldsmobile delta 88, 3800 engine. i put a brand new radiator in it and filled it up with 50/50 prestone. i,am going to check it some morning when the engine is cold. what should it read? i want it to read low enough for winter.
2. Quofan Says: If you have 50/50 anti freeze in then you should have no worries at all
3. doornobk Says: 50/50 is good for -34*F. Assuming you had the proper mix before you should be fine now. If the mix before was not correct you wont be correct now and will have to drain some off and either add straight antifreeze or water to get it where you want it. Did you buy one of the testers? Its just a device that sucks up some coolant and then either has little balls that float or an arrow and tells you what you are good for. 50/50 is the perfect balance between hot and cold. Anything other than that you may have to adjust it between winter and summer if you live in a climate that makes the full swings.
4. Kenny P Says: If you are running a 50/50 mix you'll be good to about twenty below. Unless you live in the antartic if you have a true 50/50 mix you will be good . but check it with a hydrometer just to be sure. Yes check it first thing in the morning with the engine cold so there's no chance of getting scalded. . Check the fluid inside the radiator after removing the cap . If thats not possible check it in the resivoir. I think the 88 can be checked via the radiator cap.
5. Dan Says: you fill the radiator completely full and the coolant bottle to the full mark. why would you want it low for winter?
6. mdk68gto, ase certified m tech Says: the level should be yp to the lowest mark in the tank. if you mean with a hydrometer, as high as the Gauge will read.
7. Jim Says: Depends on where you live.
8. Dave87gn Says: there is a fill line on the overflow tank...one for hot one for cold
